MEETINGS
June 19, 2008
Ms. Jay Wojcik from Lombard Kiwanis
and the "Tag Team" for promoting
membership came to our meeting with
some good advise about finding  new
members. Start with a softer approach.
Ask people if they would like to \help
with a project. If they find that fun
and meaningful, they may want to
take the next step and make a
longer term commitment.

Carrie Pollard from the organization of
Pork Producers has 4800 head of hogs and
50 milking cows on the farm in Dekalb that
she works with her husband. She is a college graduate and also works at Bethany Animal Hospital in Sycamore, Il. She is a wonderful example of today's farmer as dedicated as
ever to farming. She told us she knows
each of the cows individually and
considers the animal's welfare as part of
her personal responsibility.
May 22, 2008
Kelly Schultz of Relay for Life spoke
to us. Their annual 12 hour, overnight
event will occur on June 13-14, 2008
at Byron school to bring together
cancer survivors and their supporters.

We also celebrated Paster Appreciation
Day. We were fortunate to have
Paster Michael  Hoffman and Paster
John Guthrie from Church of God
in Oregon and May Ley, Education
Director for St. Mary's Catholic
Church with us for breakfast.

A our meeting Diane McNeilly described
the development of a public transportation system for Ogle County. It will combine existing senior transportation with
low cost transportation services for all
residents of Ogle and Lee counties;
fixed
routes and some flexible home pick ups.

Funding will come from the Federal government with matching local grants.
